Mike Hayes:
“What I love most about glass is that you can get your hands on it. Your mind stays sharp and the work you do is always fresh,” says Hayes.
Hayes began blowing glass in 2001 at Washington University through a class taught by Doug Auer. Hayes has long had an artistic bent, working in art and especially in sculpture. He graduated with a B.S. in economics from Washington University, but glass blowing is his passion.
While he doesn’t specialize in a particular technique, vessel makers influence him. He is currently assisting Sam Stang and Kaeko Maehato in Augusta, MO.
Hayes teaches beginning and advanced classes at Third Degree. “It’s thrilling to see all the new faces and excitement.”
